A Snapshot of Work Under Construction

I am often asked how difficult it is to piece together an original book or article. Below you see the opening of a re-working of a section - one that appears around the middle of the original piece, It gives some idea of what is involved.

I suppose it all keeps the brain cells from wearying. I am about half way through - still shaping new research material into the MSS.

If you know anything about the subject matter - get in touch.

To p.12 Working Copy of David Scott Chapter

David Scott of Dunninald (1746–1805): His Central Role

1a. Aims and Objectives of this section

In this section an attempt is made to trace, explain and illustrate the exceptional and major role played by David Scott in the development of Houses of Agency—including his part in the growth of the Opium trade. He was the owner of more than one of these Houses and a dominant force in their deployment in India, London and elsewhere. This largely overlooked man provides an arresting demonstration of Scottish involvement in the political and commercial life of Scotland, India and the East India Company at the end of the eighteenth century.
